Biography

Kathleen E. Sheehan was born in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1956. She was awarded a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts (1978) Cum Laude, and a J.D. from Western New England College School of Law (1981). She was admitted to the practice of law in Massachusetts in 1982. Attorney Sheehan is a highly-experienced trial attorney, having conducted trials as Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and throughout her practice at Keyes and Donnellan, P.C. She also litigates cases for the City of Springfield, Massachusetts, serving as Assistant City Solicitor. She has tried many cases with successful outcomes in Western Massachusetts trial courts and in the Federal court system. Attorney Sheehan also has extensive experience litigating cases before regulatory boards at the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, Department of Industrial Accidents, Board of Registration of Medicine, Board of Registration of Nursing, and Board of Registration of Allied Health Professionals. Attorney Sheehan also frequently lectures and conducts presentations at accredited continuing education seminars for healthcare professionals.

  • Successfully defended bar in claim of over service of alcohol

    Successfully defended bar in claim of over service of alcohol. Patron of bar, after service of alcohol, left bar and was involved in a motor vehicle accident that resulted in death of a 23 year old motorist.

  • Successful defense of convenience store which also sold alcohol, against claim that sold alcohol to a minor

    Successful defense of convenience store which also sold alcohol, against claim that sold alcohol to a minor. Minor involved in motor vehicle accident which resulted in injuries to motorist and her two passengers.

  • Successfully defended municipality in U.S. Federal District Court in claim for violation of civil rights and discrimination based on race

    Successfully defended municipality in U.S. Federal District Court in claim for violation of civil rights and discrimination based on race. Plaintiff also claimed retaliation for opposing discrimination. Plaintiff claimed that he was denied a request for a leave of absence, disciplined more harshly, placed on spare/“tramp” list more frequently and for longer duration after complaint of unfavorable work assignments due to race, ethnicity.

  • Successfully defended municipality and individually named department head at MCAD

    Successfully defended municipality and individually named department head at MCAD hearing on claims of racial discrimination and retaliation. Complainant claimed he was unfairly disciplined and denied promotions, subjected to a hostile work environment and disparate treatment based on his race. Complainant also claimed retaliation after he complained to the municipality’s Equal Opportunity Administrator regarding the defendant heads alleged discriminatory behavior.

  • Successful defense of primary care physician in claim of failure to diagnose and treat Rhabdomyolysis

    Successful defense of primary care physician in claim of failure to diagnose and treat Rhabdomyolysis resulting in death of a 60 year old man.
